Tasty – UI/UX Case Study
- UI/UX design
Revitalizing Tasty: A sleek, user-centric redesign that elevates the app experience with a modern touch, subtle color palette, and eye-catching visuals.
Introducing my redesign project for “Tasty”, the food video and recipe app by BuzzFeed. As a UI/UX designer, my goal was to enhance the user experience while maintaining the app’s friendly, approachable vibe and refreshing its visual appeal.
The Problem
The original Tasty app features a cheerful turquoise as the main accent color, with bright pink to highlight key content. While these colors add vibrancy, they could be perceived as a little childish. Additionally, the app needed to keep up with the latest design trends, and some elements required a more modern and visually appealing touch.
Current app design
Solution
- Updated Color Scheme
- I opted for a more tranquil and subtle color scheme while retaining the branding and friendliness of the app.
- Glassmorphism Style
- I incorporated the popular glassmorphism style sparingly, maintaining good legibility and contrast throughout the design.
- Rounded Corners
- I introduced some playfulness by rounding just one corner of certain elements, creating a sense of warmth and trust.
- Typography and Icons
- I chose Lato, a popular font known for its round edges and approachable warmth, and updated the UI kit with simple, clear, and consistent outline icons.
Measuring Success
To evaluate the success of the Tasty app redesign, the following metrics could be tracked:
- Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Assess user satisfaction with the step-by-step instructions feature, including keeping the phone awake during cooking, and monitor any increase in recipe completions.
- Personalized Recommendations:
- Monitor the effectiveness of meal recommendations based on the time of day, day of the week, and major holidays, and measure user satisfaction with these personalized suggestions.
- Ratings and Tips:
- Measure the success of the rating system and tips feature for Tasty videos by monitoring the frequency of users leaving ratings and sharing tips, as well as any increase in overall user engagement and satisfaction with this interactive aspect.
Conclusion
After conducting interviews with cooking enthusiasts, the Tasty app redesign received positive feedback. Users appreciated the modern look and the new color scheme that made the app easier on the eyes despite its text-heavy content. This feedback validates the design choices made during the redesign process, demonstrating that a more user-centric approach can enhance the overall experience and satisfaction for users who love cooking.
